The dairy farm owners as well as the farmers rearing cattle heads for sacrificial purposes have been counting heavy loss this Eid Ul Azha when the price of the animals fallen sharply in the market.
The situation was graved we the people living in Dhaka and other cities were showing lest interest in purchasing the animals this season due to novel corona virus.
It might reduce the cattle heads rearing activities in the next years, said some of the dairy farm owners and private entrepreneurs in Jhenidah.
A number of dairy farm owners at Jhenidah Sadar and Shailkupa upazila in Jhenidah when contacted said they were hopeless to witness the present market of the sacrificial animals. A cow which was sold at taka 70 thousand to 75 thousand in the last Eid market, is now hardly selling at taka 50 thousand.

She was expecting at least taka 25 thousand from the duo, while the customers in cattle market had offered taka 16 thousand for the same.
“I spent at least Taka 20 thousand for fodder and treatment purposes of the goats hopping receiving Taka 25 thousand at tome to meet my loans that I had received last year from NGOs. But I am not in a position to repay the installments right now for decreasing prices of the animals. The decreasing trend price will break the backbones of the women like me”, she said.
Office sources of the district livestock officer (DLO) in Jhenidah said the dairy farm owners and individual cattle head rearing farmers in Jhenidah Sadar, Kaliganj, Kotchandpur, Moheshpur, Shailkupa and Harinakundu upazilas had so far produced a total of 61 thousand cattle heads and 51 thousand goats. The demand of the dame was 90 thousand for selling in the Eid Ul Azha market this season. They had produced about the same number of the cattle heads in the last Eid market.

Many of the entrepreneurs hope that it will be the suitable hours for selling the animals.

Expressing some of his experiences in the markets, the DLO said each and every farm owners and individual cattle heads rears will be affected badly as they were not in a position to recover the fodder and other costs round the year.
