The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) showcased Bangladesh's strides in jackfruit processing and marketing through a webinar and fair. Officials discussed jackfruit's role as a Special Agricultural Product (SAP) under FAO's One Country, One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative.
Jingyuan Xia and Wahida Akter led discussions on OCOP implementation and entrepreneurship in the jackfruit market. The event, hosted at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) on Thursday, featured sessions on research, value chains, and sustainable practices.
FAO Repre-----sentative Jiaoqun Shi emphasised Bangladesh's efforts in promoting jackfruit, enhancing farmer livelihoods, and reducing waste. Secretary Wahida Akter highlighted jackfruit's nutritional significance and economic potential.
Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) showcased six jackfruit varieties and advanced processing technologies. Over 300 farmers and stakeholders received training on production, post-harvest management, and value addition.
The webinar drew agronomists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and government officials, aiming to foster knowledge exchange and promote sustainable jackfruit practices globally.
