Family of late MP support helpless people of Atgharia

Late Land Minister and district Awami League President Shamsur Rahman Sharif’s family of Pabna-4 (Ishwardi-Atgharia) constituency are continuing to distribute relief among the helpless and unemployed people of the district. On Friday, Awami League's Ishwardi Upazila Committee member Ghalibur Rahman Sharif distributed relief goods to 2,500 families of different unions and villages of Atgharia upazila of Pabna. Earlier, on April 9, Ghalibur Rahman Sharif distributed relief goods to 4,000 poor and helpless families in different unions of Ishwardi.

Some activists of the party said that late Shamsur Rahman Sharif’s sons Ghalibur Rahman Sharif and Shakibur Rahman Sharif Kanak distributed food items to those suffering from food shortage due to lack of work oppurtunities and sought prayers for the departed soul of their father. Among the food items were rice, potatoes, pulses, edible oils, spices and soaps.

Ghalibur Rahman Sharif was accompanied by President of Atgharia Upazila Awami League and Municipal Mayor Shahidul Islam Ratan, Upazila Chairman Tanvir Islam, Debottar UP chairman  Chanchal, Chandva UP chairman Saiful Islam Kamal, Ekdonto UP chairman Ismail Hossain Sardar and leaders of the organization including upazila, municipal and union level Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League.

Ghalibur Rahman Sharif said, “Myfather Shamsur Rahman Sharif was a beloved leader of Ishwardi-Atgharia residents. He has worked for the welfare of the people all his life. Currently, coronavirus is widespread throughout the country. The government has issued some guidelines, including general leave, to prevent the virus. Business, communication and travel have been discontinued. In this context the low income people and day laborers have become unemployed.”

He said that if his father was alive, he would run to them every day during this crisis. “But because he is with us anymore, we are doing what he would have done,” he said. At this time he urged the relief seekers to pray for the forgiveness of his father's departed soul.
