The Ministry of Labour and Employment will provide Tk 2 lakh to each family of the people who died in the fire at a plastic factory at Kamalbagh in old Dhaka's Chakbazar area on Monday.
State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian made the announcement in a statement expressing profound shock and sorrow at the death of six workers of a restaurant named 'Barishal Hotel'.
She also prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed deep sympathy to the members of bereaved families.
It is suspected that the fire might have originated at the restaurant on the ground floor of a four-storey building and later it spread over the plastic factory.
A Dhaka court on Tueday placed one Md Fakhar Uddin, owner of Barishal Hotel and Restaurant, in a case lodged over the death of his six staff in a deadly fire that ripped through a four-storey building in old Dhaka's Chawkbazar area on Monday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order as police produced Fakhar before the court and pleaded to place him on seven-day remand.
The fire, believed to be originated from a plastic product factory situated in the building, quickly engulfed the whole infrastructure, killing the six hotel staff on the ground floor of the building. Police arrested Fakhar from Subhadya area of Keraniganj early today.
