Families of four slain national leaders on Wednesday demanded inclusion of the biographies of the national leaders in textbooks so that the new generation could know about their contributions in the liberation war, and the nation as well.
They also demanded the formation of an independent commission to identify those involved in the heinous killings of the national leaders in prison on November 3, 1975.
They came up with these demands when they paid homage to the portraits of the national four leaders by placing floral wreaths inside the old Dhaka Central Jail at Nazimuddin Road, where the leaders were brutally killed on November 3 in 1975.

Parliament members Simin Hossain Rimi and Tanjim Ahmad Sohel, two children of one of the slain four national leaders Tajuddin Ahmad, and Rezaul Karim, a son of another slain national leader Captain Mansur Ali, among others, made the demands.
MP Simin Hossain Rimi said, “Being a conscious citizen of the country, I believe that all the citizens and the new generation must know about the contributions of national four leaders and their biographies.”
“Keeping the national four leaders behind the scene or hiding their contribution, the dream of making the country as ‘Sonar Bangla’ would not be possible”, she said.
She also demanded the formation of an independent commission to identify those who were involved behind the jail killings.
Tanjim Ahmad Sohel said, observing only a day on the occasion of the ‘jail killing day’ is not enough to pay homage to the four national leaders.
“The biographies of the national leaders and their contributions in the liberation war and to the nation must be included in the textbooks in the school, college and university levels, so that the new generation could be informed about the complete history”, said Tanjim Ahmad Sohel.
Rezaul Karim, a son of slain captain Syed M Mansur Ali, said even after 45 years of the killing of national four leaders, there are demands of formation of an independent commission regarding the jail killing incident.
“We also want to know about the roles of the then jail authorities”, he said.
Syed Nazrul Islam, who was the acting President of the then Mujibnagar government, its Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmad, Captain M Mansur Ali, who was the Prime Minister of the first government under presidential form in Bangladesh, and AHM Quamruzzaman, another key member of the Mujibnagar government, were assassinated in the then Dhaka Central Jail on November 3 in 1975.
