Jatiya Party Chairman Ghulam Muhammed Quader on Monday said that the fall of Awami League government is the result of anti-discrimination students' movement, not the movement of any political party.
He said this at a discussion with the Central Committee of the National Student Society on Monday.
GM Quader said, “We have always spoken against discrimination and corruption and bad governance. Common people thought that students don't want to join politics. No one realized that students are so politically aware. It is proved that students understand politics more than us”.
He said that the main strength of the students is unity, and the second strength is the trust of the people. The people had faith in the students — they agitated for the country. That is why students must maintain unity and stay out of lust for power and greed.
The former minister said, there are many calculations in politics. Awami League is not in the field, but they have a support group. They will play a role in the next election. The common people do not like the situation that BNP leaders and workers have created without coming to power.
JAPA Chairman said that BNP is facing anti-discrimination students in Rangpur. When someone starts squatting, the students protest it. In the end, it is not certain who will be on the side of the people. The National Student Society needs to be more organised.
GM Quader said that necessary reforms should be made for such a government. That is why we are willing to give time to the current government. Well-elected governments were often dictatorial. But, unelected governments were much more democratic. Unelected governments value public opinion more.
Therefore, we have no objection to give time to the unelected government for reforms, GM Quader said, "We want the present government to maintain law and order situation, to control commodity prices, to maintain employment... Then we do not mind to wait."
