Police arrested a man pretending to be a Sub-inspector of Police (SI) along with his associate from Palli Bidyut area in Ashulia upazila of Dhaka district on Sunday. Wireless sets, police uniform, handcuffs were seized from them at the time.
They were produced in the court on Monday afternoon, where they gave a confessional statement under section 164.
The arrestees were identified as Solaiman Islam alias Raju (35), son of late Samad Mollah of Barikhali (Satyajitpur) village and Kamrul Sheikh (35), son of Budai Sheikh of Sirijdia in Magura sadar. They were living as tenants in two separate houses in Ghoshbagh (Kundulbagh) and Palli Bidyut areas under Ashulia police station.
According to police sources, on the evening of December 31, three swindlers in police uniforms went to Nazrul Islam's house in Char Azimpur village of Singair. They looted gold ornaments and cash from the house in guise of police. The next day, Nazrul's wife Shahida Akhter filed a case with the police.
Aminul Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Singair police station, who is investigating the case, said, “Solaiman and Kamrul were arrested from a rented house from Palli Bidyut area of Ashulia”.
“During preliminary interrogation the arrestees confessed that identifying themselves as Police personnel they have been snatching valuable from dwellers at different parts of Dhaka and Manikganj district” said Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Crime) Hafizur Rahman.
