Supreme Court lawyers arrested Solimuddin, who had been pretending to be a lawyer for 17 years, and handed him over to the police on Wednesday morning.
Barrister Humayun Kabir Pallab, co-secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, went live on the association's Facebook page with Solimuddin after his arrest.
Kabir explained that Solimuddin entered court number 30 and began instructing a lawyer from behind. When the lawyers present grew suspicious, they challenged him. Upon checking his documents, they discovered he was a fraud.
Kabir revealed that Solimuddin claimed to have graduated in law in 2007 and applied for the Bar Council examination but never sit for it. Despite this, he dressed as a lawyer and gave instructions to other lawyers inside the Supreme Court.
Solimuddin created seals using the room numbers of two senior Supreme Court lawyers and falsely introduced himself as a Supreme Court lawyer while instructing senior lawyers in court.
Kabir emphasised that Solimuddin's actions violate the Bar Council Act and the rules of the Supreme Court Bar Association, constituting a serious offence under the Criminal Code.
The Shahbag police station now holds Solimuddin. Kabir stated that anyone who pretends to be a Supreme Court lawyer without proper certification will be handed over to the authorities and not exempted from legal consequences.
