Internet restored in the country

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram resume services

After a period of disruption, Bangladesh’s internet services have been fully restored. Following several hours of broadband outages and a day-long mobile internet shutdown, connectivity has resumed across the country.

As of 1:30 pm on Monday, the government has lifted restrictions on both broadband and mobile internet services. Emdadul Haque, President of the ISP Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), confirmed to the media around 3:30 pm that the entire internet system, including social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, is now operational. Internet speeds have returned to normal, providing relief to users nationwide.

The internet disruptions began on Sunday afternoon when a government directive halted 4G mobile internet services. Broadband connections were subsequently suspended from 10 am Monday, isolating the country for several hours.

This latest round of internet restrictions followed a series of interruptions amid ongoing protests and violence related to the quota reform movement.

Mobile internet and broadband services had been intermittently cut since July 17, with limited restoration starting on July 23. 4G mobile services were partially restored on July 28, but key social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, remained inaccessible until their return on July 31.

With these services now fully restored, users can once again access their favourite social media channels and resume normal online activities.
