A 37-year-old Malaysia returnee has died of coronavirus-like symptoms at Nasirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria on Wednesday. The man suffering from fever, cough and breathing problem died at about 8:30pm, hours after he got admitted at the Upazila Health Complex, said Dr Avijit Roy, health officer of Nasirnagar.
After his death, family members and relatives, except for father of the deceased, fled the hospital, the doctor said. The body was buried at his village at about 3:00am on Wednesday by the health complex staffers after collecting samples for coronavirus test, said Dr Avijit.
They asked police to put the family members under isolation, he added. Father of the Malaysia returnee said that his son returned to Bangladesh on March 18 and went to his in-laws' house in the same upazila after completing 14-day quarantine at home.
He started showing coronavirus-like syndromes on April 4, the father said. After blood test, it appeared that he was suffering from typhoid, he added. Police have locked down his in-laws' home early on Wednesday morning, said Anisur Rahman, superintendent of police in Brahmanbaria, said. Dr Avijit said that they buried the man as they didn't get help from local authorities in this regard.
