A Dhaka court has ordered Nazrul Islam Mazumder, the former chairman of EXIM Bank, to be jailed on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Emon Hossain Gazi during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Akhtaruzzaman made the ruling after police presented Mazumder, following his seven-day remand. They requested to keep him in custody until the investigation concludes.
Gazi was shot dead on August 5 in the Chittagong Road area of Jatrabari. His brother filed a case with Jatrabari Police Station on August 28, naming 85 individuals.
Mazumder was arrested in Gulshan on October 1 and remanded the following day. He was removed from his position as chairman on August 5, coinciding with the fall of the Awami League government.
He had led EXIM Bank since 2007 and the Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) since 2009.
