Ex-JU VC Prof Kazi Saleh Ahmed passes away

Professor Dr Kazi Saleh Ahmed, former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU), passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Dhanmondi in the capital on Tuesday. He was 83.

He was also the professor from the university's Department of Statistics.

Professor Dr Meherun Ahmed, daughter of Professor Kazi Saleh Ahmed, confirmed the matter.

Professor Ahmed is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, relatives, numerous colleagues, students, and well-wishers. His first Namaj-e-Janaza was held after Zohr prayers on Tuesday at Taqwa Mosque near his residence in Dhanmondi, followed by a second Namaj-e-Janaza after Asr prayers at the central mosque on 

the Jahangirnagar University 

campus.

In honour of Professor Ahmed, the Jahangirnagar University Department of Statistics Alumni Association (JUDSAA) has declared a one-day mourning on Tuesday.

During the mourning day, a black flag was hoisted, and the university flag was kept at half-mast. Additionally, all university classes, except for exams, were suspended.

Current Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Nurul Alam expressed deep grief and sorrow over Dr Ahmed's death.
