Ex-IGP, ex-Army gen Ziaul, 6 others produced before ICT

Former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan, among eight ex-high officials have been produced before the the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Wednesday.

They were brought to the court at around 10am on charges of crimes against humanity during the July-August uprising.

A three-member tribunal, headed by the Chairman of the tribunal Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, will hear their case.

Others ex-high officials who were produced before the tribunal are former Jatrabari police station OC Abul Hasan, former superintendent of Dhak police Md Abdullah Al Kafi, former OC of Gulshan Thana Md Mazharul Haque, and former inspector of Detective Branch of police Md Arafat Hossain.

Former DC (Mirpur) Md Jasim Uddin Mollah and former additional superintendent (Savar Circle) Md Shahidur Islam have already been arrested.

Abdullah Al Noman, prosecutor of the tribunal, told Prothom Alo yesterday, "Two of these eight officials have already been arrested in cases with the ICT. On Wednesday [today] they will make regular attendance. Six officers may be arrested in cases for crimes against humanity."

On October 27, a three-member tribunal led by Chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder approved the prosecution's application, and ordered the production of these eight accused.

Arrest warrants were issued against 17 former police officers in a case of crimes against humanity and those who are arrested will be brought to the tribunal.
