A Dhaka court has sent former BNP lawmaker from Narayanganj-4 constituency Mohammad Gias Uddin to jail after he surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail in a case filed over amassing wealth of Tk 1.41 crore illegally. Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain passed the order on Sunday. On December 19, 2021, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Jahangir Alam filed the case for amassing wealth of Tk 1.41 crore beyond known source of income. The anti-graft body later filed charge-sheet against him.

According to the case documents, the ACC on November 2, 2020, sent the former Narayanganj-4 lawmaker notice to submit his wealth statement and Gias Uddin submitted his wealth statement on December 23, 2020.

The ACC, after scrutinizing the statement, found wealth of Tk 1.41 crore beyond his known source of income.
