Patuakhali district administration has started an eviction and demolition drive to clean the three-kilometer long main canal of Kalapara municipality area. By demolishing the illegal part of a 6-storey building in front of the canal on Saturday, the eviction and demolition drive began.
Patuakhali District Executive Magistrate Runalt Chakma led the eviction drive. During the drive, Kalapara UNO (Acting) Jagatbandhu Mandal, Kalapara Municipality Mayor BIpul Chandra Hawladar and other officials were present there. Executing Magistrate Runalt Chakma though refused to speak about the drive at the time.
Kalapara Municipality Mayor said that most of the buildings around the canal were built ignoring the primary designs that were submitted at the municipality for permission.

Besides, hundreds of illegal buildings were built on the canal that restricts the flow of the canal. For better water management system, all the illegal buildings will be demolished around the canal.
In the meantime, people of the area expressed their joy hearing the news of demolition drive. They said this step will help the drainage system in the municipality. They also urged authorities to demolish all the illegal buildings in the municipality.
