Eviction drive against illegal structures continues in districts

The eviction drive for removing 44,000 illegal structures in 64 districts across the country began on Monday. The drive continues. The concerned district water resources development and management committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner has prepared the list of the illegal structures.

Water Resources Secretary Kabir Bin Anwar has said that the government is determined to remove the illegal structures across the country. The drive will continue till the complete removal of these illegal establishments.

Illegal structures evicted from Bangabandhu road

Roads and Highways Department in collaboration with Water Development Board carried out eviction drive to remove illegal structures on Bangabandhu road at Police Lines in Gopalganj on Monday morning, reports our Gopalganj Correspondent. 

The drive led by Executive Magistrates of Gopalganj Mahabubul Alam and Amit Roy took place in Police Lines, Kuadanga, Gatepara and Pachuria area in the town.

Executive Engineer of Gopalganj Roads and Highways Department KM Shariful Alam, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Biswajit Baiddo and officials of deferent Government Offices took part in the drive.

Executive Magistrate Mahabubul Alam said that the eviction drive to remove illegal structure would be continued. RHD Executive Engineer KM Shariful Islam said that they have warned people to remove the illegal structures in the respective areas and also given them enough time to do that. When people did not remove the structures, they started the eviction. 

Eviction drive launched to free Dinajpur Ghagra canal  

The excavation work and eviction drive against illegal structures in Ghagra canal flowing over Dinajpur district town was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dinajpur Md. Mahmudul Alam. The DC also inaugurated the tree plantation on both sides of canal, reports our Dinajpur Correspondent. 

Mayor of Dinajpur Municipality Syed Jahangir Alam, Executive Engineer of Dinajpur Water Development Board Md. Faizur Rahman, Sadar Upazila UNO Md Firozul Islam Firoz were present, among others. 

Md Mahmudul Alam also said that eight kilometers of canal out 15 would be rescued from illegal establishments in the first phase of drive.   

Meanwhile, Faizur Rahman said that 19 small rivers are flowing in the district including Atrai, Small Jamuna, Kartaya and Ichamati. There are also 65 canals and 74 waterbodies in the district. Of them, 14 canals will be excavated in the first phase. 

Six illegal house evicted in Akhaura

Brahmanbaria District Administration evicted six illegal establishments, including some makeshift houses, which set up on a five hundred-meter space at Bijna Khal of Shounlohoghar area under Akhaura upazila in on Monday morning, reports our Brahmanbaria Correspondent. 

The eviction drive was carried out with the help of Brahmanbaria Water Development Board (WDB).

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Brahmanbaria Md. Elias Mehedi informed the drive was a part of removing illegal structures from the banks of waterbodies and excavating them. Six illegal structures were evicted and the drive will continue, he added.

Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tahmina Akhter Reina, Akhaura Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and officials of WDB were present there during the eviction drive. 

29 illegal structures identified in Bandarban town

Water Development Board at Bandarban started eviction of various illegal establishments constructed on and beside rivers, canals and beels of the district, reports our Bandarban Correspondent. 

The first eviction drive was started on Michki canal adjacent to Officers' Club of Bandarban sadar on Monday noon. Some of the illegal structures on the Michki canal were removed and owners of some of those structures themselves removed those. 

Rakibul Hasan, Executive Engineer of WDB of Bandarban headed the eviction drive. He said that eviction drive to make lands, rivers, canals and water bodies free from the illegal occupierds has been started in Banderban like those in all places of the country. He added, so far a list of 29 illegal structures at Bandarban town has been prepared and more list will be prepared and illegal structures will be demolished during the on going drive.  

46 illegal establishments demolished in Manda

An operation to evict illegal structures from the land of Water Development Board has been started at Manda of Naogaon district from Monday morning, reports our Naogaon Correspondent.   

Sudhangsu Kumar Sarker, Executive Engineer of Naogaon Water Development Board informed, there are more than one hundred illegal structures in both sides of the 10-kilometre long canal from Pathakata to Satihat of Manda upazila. A demolition drive has been started by WDB of Manda from Monday morning and at the first day of the drive, 46 illegal establishments were demolished from Satihat area. He said, the entire canal would be freed from the illegal occupiers in phases.

A police team along with officials and employees of WDB headed by SM Habibul Hasan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Manda and Nazrul Islam, Deputy PoliceInspector of Manada police Station conducted the demolition drive.
