Every citizen has right to get justice: CJ

Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan on Wednesday said every citizen has the fundamental right as well as constitutional right to get justice.

“Justice-seekers who come to the court for getting justice can take rest in Naykunja. Witnesses of the case can sit there and they can return after giving deposition, which will speed up the trial process. Judicial work will be accelerated and one day it will be seen that the slowness of judicial work has reduced, justice has gained speed,” he said.

“In this way, we want to advance the judiciary,” the Chief Justice said, thanking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for establishing Naykunja.

Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan was speaking at a function after inaugurating ‘Naykunja’, a public restroom for justice seekers, on Bogura District and Sessions Judge Court premises.

Senior District and Sessions Judge of Bogura AKM Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, Special Judge (Senior District and Sessions Judge) Md Shahidullah, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 (Senior District and Sessions Judge) Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir, Administrative Tribunal member (District Judge) Sharnim Akhtar, Judge (District and Session Judge) Ashiqul Khabir of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1, Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Moniruzza­man, Additional District and Session Judges, Deputy Commi­ssioner Md Saiful Islam, Superintendent of Police Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty, judges of various courts, officials of district and police administrations, leaders of Bar Association and lawyers were present.

Considering the difficulties of justice seekers, Bangladesh Supreme Court has taken a precedent-setting initiative to set up ‘Naykunja', funded by the Government of Bangladesh. 

The establishment is planned to be constructed keeping in mind the public welfare judicial concept. Naykunja has a waiting room for justice seekers with 72 seats. 

There is a well-equipped feeding corner for breastfed babies and mothers. Separate toilets for women and men are also provided while there are food corners for buying food. It has been constructed by the Public Works Department Bogura at a cost of about Tk 53 lakh.
