Ensuring healthy growth of young students underscored

Health experts at an advocacy cum planning meeting on Wednesday underscored the need for regular health check-up activities for young students to ensure their healthy growth for building a healthier nation.

Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) organised the event at its conferenceroom before observing the Health Check-up Activities for Students by Young Doctors from October 23 to 29 next in all primary and secondary level educational institutions of the city.

The programmes will be arranged under special management in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, abiding by the health directives to make students aware about essential hygiene rules and factors.

The Directorate of Health of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and district health administration are extending assistance to the RpCC authority to make the health check-up activities of young students successful.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa attended the event as the chief guest with Chief Health Officer of RpCC Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taj in the chair.

Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Md Ruhul Amin Miah, its Secretary Md Rashedul Haque and Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr Herambo Kumar Roy addressed the event as special guests.

City Councilors, representatives of Border Guard Bangladesh, District Secondary Education Office and Sadar Upazila Primary Education Office, different educational institutions, Islamic Foundation, NGOs and civil society members were present.

Under the programme, the young doctors will conduct health check-ups of students at educational institutions before observing the National Worm Control Week-2021 from October 30 to November 5 next in the city.

Dr Kamruzzaman stressed on creating awareness among parents for preventing higher rate of worm infections among school-going children by their intake of deworming tablets twice a year to avoid malnutrition.

The Civil Surgeon called upon teachers to educate school children about the importance of good hand-washing before taking meals to prevent spread of communicable diseases and make them aware about essential hygiene factors.

The chief guest suggested all concerned to conduct the health check-up activities effectively and make the upcoming deworming campaign successful to build a healthier nation.
