An engineer died in an accident during welding of the Rooppur nuclear power plant under construction at Ishwardi in Pabna. He died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 6:30 pm on Thursday. Rooppur project site office in-charge ABM Ruhul Quddus confirmed the matter.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Mobin, 35. He was working as an engineer in the Indian company Paharpur Cooling Tower. His home is in Tebunia Majidpur village of Pabna Sadar upazila. His father’s name is Keramat Ali.
According to project sources, welding of 2,900 load was taking place on Thursday (April 23) at around 3pm for the construction of the pillars of the cooling tower adjacent to the Padma river. At this time the hook of the mob pressure tore and fell down. Engineer Abdul Mobin was seriously injured during the incident.
Later, other officials of the project rescued him and first he was treated at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex. When his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He died at 6:30 pm while undergoing treatment there.
ABM Ruhul Quddus, site office in-charge of Rooppur project, said, “The engineer was sent first to Ishwardi Health Complex and later to Rajshahi Medical College for speedy treatment. However he could not be saved. The cause of the accident will be investigated.”
