A critically endangered 'Red-necked Keelback' snake has been rescued from Kalabazaar area under Sreemangol Municipality of Moulvi Bazaar.
Being informed of the presence of the snake, activists of Bangladesh Wildlife Seba Foundation in Sreemanagol went to the spot and rescued the snake on Monday ( 1 Feb.) noon.
Sajal Deb, Director of Wildlife Foundation informed, by watching the exceptional snake, local people became panicky and phoned him. Later, he went to Kalabazaar of Sreemangol town and rescued the snake. He opined the snake might be carried there inside the Banana clusters from the forest.
The snake is known as Red-Necked Keelback. In Bangla it is known as Lal Ghar Dora Sap. The snake is diurnal and contains highly toxic poison.
The snake is an endangered species and can be found in deserted water-bodies and in the moist pastureland. The snake will be released in Lauyachhara forest soon, he added.
