Empowerment of women stressed for overall dev

The International Women’s Day-2024 was celebrated in different districts and upazilas on Friday. The theme of the day was equal rights and opportunities for women with investment to lead them forward.  

Gaibandha Correspondent reports:  The International Women’s Day-2024 was celebrated in  Gaibandha as elsewhere in the country  on Friday with a call to ensure overall development of the women folk and their empowerment in society. 

This year’s theme of the day was  'Narir Somo Odhikar, Somo Sujog-Egiye Nite Hok Biniyog'. 

The district administration and Department of Women Affairs including SKS Foundation chalked out the elaborate programmes to mark the day.

A post rally, discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), with Deputy Director of the Department Nargis Jahan in the chair.

 Additional district magistrate Md. Mashiur Rahman attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest.  Additional police super Abdullah Al- Mamun and women leader Parul Begum addressed the function, among others.

 The speakers underscored the need for ensuring dignity of women and safety in work places in all spheres of society. 

Chief guest Md. Mashiur Rahman in his speeches said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had implemented many programmes in last 15 years aimed at building a welfare state for the women folk.

 Apart from it, SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha based non –government organization, also chalked out the programmes in hard to reach chars under Fulchhari upazila of the district marking the day under Community based Resilience Women’s Empowerment and Action (CREA) project funded by Manusher Jonno Foundation. 

A big human chain was formed on the ground of Chandanswar High School located at Fazlupur char of Fulchhari upazila in the district with assistant teacher of the school Hasan Ali in the chair. Female vice chairman of the upazila parishad Anjuara Begum alias Mariee addressed the function as the chief guest.  The speakers urged  all to work together to push forward the backward char people towards desired development. 

They demanded of the government to give the recognition of the char women as farmers, pay fair wages to the women labours, involve the underprivileged char women in various state-run facilities including ICT.

 A large number of teenagers, women and people of different professions participated in the human chain and discussion meeting holding play-cards, festoons, banners inscribed with various awareness messages.

 Mymensingh Correspondent says : Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner Umme Salma Tanzia said that   women  have  achieved patience, endurance, mental strength, tolerance of suffering. Women are not 2nd gender, women are people. She said this in a discussion on the occasion of the International Women's Day-2024 on Friday.   She also said that an environment of social security should be created for women; So that he can go out on the street without fear. On the occasion of International Women's Day -2024 in Mymensingh, the Divisional Commissioner said these things in a discussion on the occasion of the day organised by Mymensingh District Administration and Directorate of Women Affairs on Friday at Bhasha Shaheed Abdul Jabbar Auditorium of Zilla Parishad.

Mymensingh District Commissioner Didare Alam Mohammad Maqsud Chowdhury presided over the discussion meeting as special guest was Mymensingh Zilla Parishad Chairman Yusuf Khan Pathan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police MM Mohaimenur Rashid. Among others, Deputy Director of Women Affairs Department Nazneen Sultana, Joyita Awardee Head Teacher Jahanara Khanam, BRAC District Coordinator Jahangir Alam, Joyita Awardee Women Entrepreneur Rokeya Begum etc. spoke. Officials of various government departments, women entrepreneurs, teachers and students of various schools and colleges, citizen representatives and electronic and print media representatives were present in the discussion meeting.

Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner Umme Salma Tanzia inaugurated the International Women's Day programme by blowing balloons at 9 am on Friday (March 08) in the premises of Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner's office. Later, a colorful procession was taken out from the office premises under the leadership of the departmental commissioner, with the participation of government department officials, women entrepreneurs, women participants of various levels and teachers and students.

In addition to this, a discussion programme chaired by Deputy Director of Begum Rokeya Training Center, Mymensingh Md. Mahbubur Rashid was the chief guest of Bangladesh Agricultural University Institute and Director of Agribusiness and Development Studies Professor Dr. Ismat Ara Begum, Bangladesh Architect Institute Design Lab Architects member architect and director Nazneen Sultana as special guest. 

Tangail (Uttar) Correspondent says:   Upazila Administration and Women Affairs Office arranged a discussion to observe the International Women’s Day in  Upazila Hall Room on Thursday. 

There were seven seats arranged in the stage for guests. But the chief guest Abdul Lalif Siddique MP did not sit there, he sat in the audience seats to honour women. 

A rally was brought out from Upazila Parishad premises . It paraded the main roads then ended in Upazila Parishad  UNO  Shahadat Hossain presided over the function.  Among others,  Upazila Parshad Chairman Ansar Ali B.com, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Shilpi Da and other officers of different department were present in there. 

Later, certificates were distributed among the IGA trainees. 

Satkhira Correspondent reports:  A rally  followed by  discussion meeting was held in Satkhira on the occasion of International Women's Day c on Friday. 

Keeping the slogan "Equal rights of women, investment to advance opportunities". A colorful rally was taken out from Shaheed Abdur Razzak Park in the city on Friday morning. After the rally toured the main roads of the city, it went to the District Arts Academy and held a discussion meeting. Laila Parveen Sejunti, MP from reserved women's seat, spoke as the chief guest.

Satkhira Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Sarwar Hossain also spoke there, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Offs) Aminur Rahman, former principal of Satkhira Government Women's College Abdul Hamid, Deputy Director of District Women's Affairs Department AKM Shafiul also spoke there. Azam, District Awami League Vice President Shahana Mahid, Women Affairs Directorate Program Officer Fatema Tuz Zohra, National Women's Organization Chairman Jyotsna Ara and many others.

On Women's Day, one of the successful entrepreneurs   was given was sewing machine and the other two were  presented crests.

Panchagarh Correspondent reports:  The International Women’s Day was observed in Panchagarh on Friday.   A rally was brought out from Upazila Parishad premises. Activists and staff of   Asa development Association, One Stage Crime Seal and including other women entrepreneurs and journalists were participated there. 

Later Upazila Assistant Commissioner (land)  Md Mahbubul Hasan presided over in a discussion meeting organised  to mark the day. 

The chief guest was Upazila Parishad Chairman Kazi Mahmudul  Rahman (Dablu).  The special guests were Women Vice- Chairman Sultana Razia and Upazila Ansar- VDP  Officer Rokeya Begum Ruku. 

Singer Soma Chowdhury  conducted a  cultural prgramme .
