As promised, the traders and locals of Rooppur have organized a human chain demanding compensation to the shop owners and traders and employment of the local unemployed youth.
The human chain was held on the station road in front of Ishwardi Press Club at 12 noon on Monday under the banner of 'Rooppur Junction Traders Promise to Demand Employment of Local Unemployed Youth'.
The Rooppur Mor Businessmen's Association and the locals organized this human chain programme.
Awami League Ishwardi Upazila Committee Vice President Muktijoddha Md Rashidullah gave a brief statement on behalf of the locals after the human chain.
He said that the shops and businesses at the junction adjacent to the Rooppur nuclear power plant have not been compensated for the last nine months as promised.
"We don't want to see development on the one hand and unemployment on the other," he said. The evicted businessmen are now living a dehumanized life. He strongly demanded the employment of these families and local unemployed youth.
Awami League leader Rezaul Karim Raja, Rooppur Mor Businessmen's Association president Jalal Uddin Tapan, businessman Raushan Alam Rony, Rezaul Islam Mahidul, Pakshi Union Juba League president Anwar Hossain and others also spoke on the occasion.
