Conflict between the two parties is at an all-time high over the election of the managing committee president of Kashidanga High School in Biral upazila of Dinajpur. In a pre-announced meeting at the Upazila Education Officer's Office for the election of the president, the former president of the school has been accused of vandalizing the car and preventing the elected members from participating in the meeting. In this incident, a tense situation is prevailing.
It is learned that in order to form the managing committee of Kashidanga High School in Dhamair Union No. 3 of Biral Upazila, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Rabeya Khatun started the process of forming the school managing committee as the presiding officer. Following this, the election schedule signed by the Presiding Officer and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Rabeya Khatun was announced on 28 March. Distribution and submission of nomination papers from 29th March to 31st March, Selection on 3rd April, Withdrawal on 5th April and Voting on 17th April.
The voting was completed on April 17 in a peaceful atmosphere. The elected members are Tapan Mohant with 201 votes, Md. Taimur Rahman with 190 votes, Nasirul Islam with 16 votes and Md. Mozaharul Islam with 190 votes. Swapna Rani got 188 votes for the post of reserved female guardian, Md. Shakidul Islam got 6 votes for the post of general teacher representative and Md. Shahjahan Ali got 6 votes and Mita Rani Roy was elected unopposed as there was no rival candidate for the post of reserved female teacher. Within seven working days of the election of the 9 members of the managing committee, Anwarul Islam, the headmaster of the school, convened an election meeting on April 20 at the direction of the presiding officer and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Rabeya Khatun.
The meeting was presided over by Presiding Officer and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Rabiao Khatun. In the presence of all the elected guardian members at the meeting, the headmaster Anwarul Islam raised the issue of election of the president with the aim of forming a full committee. As no other member's name was mentioned, the resolution was passed by electing Lucky Parveen as the president with the consent of all the members present. Presiding Officer and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Rabeya Khatun declared the meeting closed as there was no further discussion in the meeting.
Lucky Parveen, president of the managing committee, was pressured by influential leader of the ruling party to elect Anwarul Islam, former president of the school, as president. Influenced by the leader of the ruling party, Presiding Officer and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Rabeya Khatun delayed sending the selected full committee to the Board of Education for approval.
On May 30, the presiding officer and upazila secondary education officer Rabeya Khatun called a meeting at his office to elect the president again. When the members elected to take part in the meeting reached in front of Biral police station, the people of former president Anwarul Islam took shelter in the police station when they started vandalizing their microbus by stopping them from participating in the meeting. The elected members complained that even with the help of the police, the elected members could not take part in the meeting. When contacted on the mobile phone of the headmaster of the school Anwarul Islam, he said that none of the elected members had attended the meeting. Presiding Officer and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Rabeya Khatun informed the matter to Upazila Nirbahi Officer Afshana Kawshar. He also suggested taking legal action.
