An elderly woman passenger of a bus was killed when the bus fell in a roadside ditch near Nalka Bridge (Culvert) at Bangabandhu Bridge West connecting highway under Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rabeya Khatun (70) wife of late Sekander Ali of village Dhamkoil under Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj district. At least 10 passengers of the bus were also injured.
Rafiqul Islam, ASI of Hatikumrul Highway Police station informed, a passenger bus of HK Enterprise from Sirajganj was proceeding towards Hatikumrul Gol Chattar on Saturday morning. When the bus reached near Nalka culvert area, the driver of the bus lost the control of the vehicle and the bus fell into a roadside ditch killing Rabeya Khatun on the spot and injuring 10 more passengers of the bus.
Being informed, Fire Service personnel and police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured passengers from inside the bus.
The injured passengers were admitted to 250-bed Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib General Hospital.
