Eight more people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning, bringing the total death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 174 this year.
In the same period, 1,017 new dengue patients were admitted to nationwide hospitals, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Within Dhaka, 225 patients were hospitalised in areas under Dhaka North City Corporation, while 166 were admitted in Dhaka South. Currently, 626 patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals nationwide.
Since January 1, 2024, Bangladesh has reported a total of 33,099 dengue cases. Last year saw the highest recorded number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease, with 1,705 fatalities. The DGHS also documented 321,179 dengue cases and 318,749 recoveries in 2023, making it the most severe dengue outbreak in the country’s history.
