Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his “warmest” Eid greetings to his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina and said the festival of Eid-ul-Azha, which is also celebrated in several parts of India, “reminds us of our deep historical and cultural links”.
As the festival this year on Saturday is marred by the Covid-19, Modi said India is available to support Bangladesh in the fight against the pandemic in any way.
“We hope that this festival will further enhance the spirit of peace and tolerance in our respective societies and promote fraternal ties between our two countries,” he wrote in a message on Friday, on the eve of the Muslims’ religious festival.
“As both our countries continue to deal with the COVID-19 situation, we appreciate the steps being taken in Bangladesh under your able leadership,” Modi said.
“I am confident that Bangladesh will tide over these challenging times,” he said, adding that, “We remain available to support your efforts in any way, including through capacity-building in the health sector.”
“On this auspicious occasion, I wish you and all my Bangladeshi brothers and sisters’ good health and prosperity.”
