Eid gifts have been distributed among 3,000 families of different classes and professions including destitute, helpless, indigent, transgender, Vedic, uprooted, saloon workers, homeless, extremely poor and physically handicapped on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman said that instead of offering Iftar among the poor and helpless people, Eid gifts are being given so that they can live in peace for a few days.

Eid items were distributed among 3,000 families at the MA Aziz Stadium grounds by the district administration on Saturday morning.

Each packet of gift consisted of 7 kg of rice, 2 kg of lentils, 2 kg of sugar, 2 kg of salt, 2 liters of soybean oil.

Chattogram DC said that every year during Ramadan, the Chattogram District Administration organizes Iftar parties in honor of people of different classes and professions including senior government and non-government officials, people's representatives, political figures and business leaders.  Although the Iftar party was supposed to be organized this year, the money allocated for the Iftar party was not given.  Gift items are distributed.  We have taken initiative to enjoy the joy of Eid with the helpless people of the society.  This is an exceptional initiative of the district administration.

He said it was not possible to organize an iftar party in the last two years due to the Corona situation.  After the situation has returned to normal, various governmental and non-governmental organizations and eminent personalities are organizing Iftar parties every day during the holy month of Ramadan.  The lion's share of the food served at these Iftar parties is being wasted and a lot of money is being spent on organizing.  Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman requested the concerned people to distribute the money among the helpless and the destitute even if such a Iftar party is avoided as much as possible.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (LA) Md. Masud Kamal presided over the function.  Commander of Mahanagar Muktijoddha Sangsad Freedom Fighter Mozaffar Ahmed, Acting Commander of District Muktijoddha Sangsad Freedom Fighter Sarwar Kamal Dulu, Raozan Upazila Chairman AKM Eheshanul Haider Chowdhury Babul, Director of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director Ahid Siraj Chowdhury Swapan, Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Abu Raihan Dolan, District Relief Officer and District Administration Officers were present on the occasion.   The Red Crescent, the CPP and the humanitarian volunteer team assisted in the distribution of the gift items.
