The holy Eid-ul-Azha, one of the major religious festivals of the Muslims across the country, was celebrated on Wednesday amid the religious solemnity.

This year's Eid was celebrated amidst fears of COVID-19 pandemic. The epidemic coronavirus has faded the joy that surrounds the Muslims centering Eid.

Eid Jamaat was not held this year in the open spaces under the directives of the government with a view to preventing the spread of infection, according to BSS.

Eid Jamaat was held all over the country by maintaining physical distance inside the mosque and following health safety guidelines and other rules, set by the government.

President Abdul Hamid with his family members and a few senior government officials offered Eid prayers at Bangabhaban Darbar Hall.

This time Eid Jamaat was not held at the National Eidgah adjacent to the High Court.

The Eid Jamaat at Sholakia Maidan, a hundred-year-old historical Eid congregation venue, was not held this time.

However, like the previous year, five Eid congregations were held in the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram.

The main congregation of Eid was held at Baitul Mukarram Mosque following strict adherence to the hygiene rules.

The congregation was held at 7 am.

Baitul Mukarram National Mosque senior imam Imam Hafez, Mufti Maulana Mohammad and Muazzin of Baitul Mukarram Mosque Mizanur Rahman conducted the prayers.

Eid congregations were also held at 8 am, 9 am, 10 am and 10:45 am respectively in the same venue.

Special prayers were also held seeking continued peace and development of the nation as well as global peace and for those infected and died from COVID-19.

However, after the Eid prayers, the ever-familiar scene of the devotees shaking hands and hugging each other did not catch the eye this time.

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, top officials of the Ministry of Religion and Islamic Foundation, Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League Joint General Secretary Kazi Morshed Hossain Kamal, South City Corporation Secretary Akramuzzaman offered prayers in the first Eid congregation.

Dhaka University (DU) Central Mosque Masjidul Jamia held Holy Eid-ul-Azha Jamaat at 8 am. Senior Imam Khatib of the mosque led the congregation.

The Muslim community across the country, including the capital, celebrated Eid-ul-Azha with due religious dignity and solemnity.

At the end of Eid-ul-Azha Jamaat, devout Muslims sacrificed animals according to their ability in the hope of attaining the infinite grace of Almighty Allah.

Heads of departments and government agencies celebrated Eid by formulating their respective programmes in the light of national programmes.
