Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that the number of honors students in our country is less than the population in many countries.
“We have to think if it is logical for us; whether we are creating unemployed certificate holders,” she said.
She further said, “The present education system needs to be reformed. We need to contemplate whether what was relevant 100 years ago is relevant now. We need to see whether the imparted education matches the demand.”
The Minister made the statement while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of 'Professor Fazlul Halim Chowdhury Industrial Chemistry Laboratory' at the Department of Chemistry of Dhaka University on Friday.
The Education Minister said that the practice of knowledge in higher education is very important.
“However, our knowledge will be limited if we do not use it for the development of the people in the society. It will not spread knowledge. Its benefits will not reach the people,” she said.
Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka AK Azad Chowdhury, Dhaka University Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof SM Maksud Kamal, Chairman of the Department of Chemistry Prof Md Anwarul Islam, National University Vice-Chancellor Prof Mashiur Rahman and family members of former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Fazlul Halim Chowdhury were present during this time.
