The Election Commission (EC) has decided to file criminal cases against the officials and employees involved in irregularities and corruption related to National Identity Card (NID).
The EC will also lodge departmental cases against them.
EC officials said that many are not paying heed to the departmental cases, so the irregularities are not reducing at the field level. As a result, it has been decided to file a criminal case to prevent irregularities and corruption. The instructions have already been sent to the field officials.
Director General of NID Department Mahbub Alam Talukdar sent the instructions.
It has been mentioned that zero tolerance policy should be adopted against irregularities and corruption. If evidence of corruption is found against someone, a criminal case should be filed along with the departmental action.
Besides, every officer and employee shall be present at the office on time every day and will not leave the workplace under any circumstances without the permission of the superior authority.
On the other hand, 'A' category applications should be processed expeditiously and report submitted to the National Identity Registration Division.
Besides, special arrangements/steps should be taken for expeditious disposal of outstanding applications related to various services related to National Identity Card.
