When the farmers in Jhenaidah became at a loss due to slap of cyclonic storm Amphan, the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah have stood by them. They have been executing the guidelines of the Prime Minster as not a single inch of land would be fallow at any way.
E-Krishi, the modern technology in faming system, has been attracting the farmers. The initiatives bringing smile on their faces, said the farmers. The housewives alongside men have been participating in the cropland farming and homestead farming to make their family self dependent.
Farmers Shimul Islam and Jahidul Islam of Madhuhati village and Akidul Islam of Soyail village in Jhenidah Sadar upazila said they received training and fertilizer and seeds free of cost. They are farming Aus and early variety vegetables to make up their deficiency caused by cyclonic storm Amphan.
Housewives Shabana Khatun and Farzana Khatun said they also received seeds and fertilizer free of cost training from the department of agriculture on extension on vegetables farming. The DAE filed staffs are always taking care of their homestead gardening activities.
The seeds, fertilizer will reduce the production cost, while they will consume adequate vegetables that they have been producing. A portion of the produced are also distributed among the near and dear ones in the village, Shabana and Farzana informed.
Upazila agriculture officer (UAO) in Jhenidah Sadar Mofakkharul Islam when contacted said challenging the Amphan, they have been marching ahead with the farmers so that they could be encouraged in farming through making up their loss caused anyway by the cyclonic storm Amphan in the district.
DAE has been distributing seeds and fertilizer, arranging demonstration on new and profitable crops and providing training on timely crops and assistance among the farmers including the women community to ensure participation of every one irrespective of cast and gender.
They had introduced E-Krishi services for the farmers even of rural areas to provide modern tech8nology to boost production and earn more from the crops. They have been also arranging farmers’ field days (FFD) for exchange sharing among the farmers.UAO said to boost production they brought a total of 1,765 faramers under incentive facilities programme in Jhenidah Sadar upazila. 300 farmers were brought under seed support activities, UAO said.
