Dustbin turns into mosquito breeding place in Shailkupa

The dustbins set up at the eastside of Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex has not been cleaned for last one year. Garbage thrown here and there is spreading bad smell and polluting the environment. It has become a threat to public health. The dustbins have turned into breeding place for mosquitoes.

Some residents of Kabirpur village of the municipality said that the authorities of Shailkupa municipality have been playing silent role in this regard. 

They said that they informed the matter to local ward councilor, but no measures had been taken to remove the rotten garbage. 

The upazila health complex is also polluting as the rotten garbage enters there when the dustbins are filled.

Akmal Hossain, a senior citizen, and Basir Uddin, a businessman, said that they have been facing troubles when the bad smell spreading with the air. The beasts, especially dogs, move on it searching foods and scattering the garbage in surrounding areas.

Akmal Hossain said that the people of Shailkupa municipality could not understand why the authorities spread germicides or insecticides on the metal road in the name of dengue prevention.

Mayor of Shailkupa municipality Kazi Ashraful Azam said the cleanliness activities are hampered for few weeks due to nationwide movement of the municipal employees to press home their demands.
