Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community, will be celebrated at 787 puja mandaps in Cumilla district this year.
Trustee Nirmal Pal, general secretary of Cumilla District Puja Udjapan Parishad, said people of the community are passing their busiest days with the works of decorating and painting idols of Goddess Durga and preparing the puja mandaps ahead of this major festival of the Bengali Hindu Community.
Stringent security measures will also be taken for smoothly performing the Durga puja all over the district, Nirmal Pal said, adding law enforcement agencies will be in place to ensure smooth celebration of the festival at all the mandaps.
The five-day long festival will begin on October 11 with due respect and religious fervor across the country and end on October 15 with immersion of the idols of goddess Durga and other deities. Authorities of all the 787 puja mandaps in Cumilla district are now spending busy times in preparing themselves to perform the puja smoothly with due festivity.
On October 11 all the religious Hindus of the country will welcome Goddess Durga with Shasthi Puja.
