Certainly, the novel corona virus is causing worry among everyone all over the world. But for marginalized populations who live with poverty, health inequalities, and other burdens, the outbreak especially could be brutal. In addition, as the markets, transportation and other businesses are lockdown in Bangladesh working class people who feed themselves earning daily are facing food crisis.
In this epidemic situation, DUCSU member and the president of Bangladesh Post Friends Forum Tanbir Hasan have come forward to help these marginalized people.
Tanbir, who got highest votes in DUCSU polls, initially started this humanitarian work from March 25 by giving foods and other essential commodities to 50 marginalized people. However, now he is feeding about 1,000 people daily.
Initially he started donating food by himself later many teachers of Dhaka University , his friends, DU alumni, DU staff helped him to continue the work. Bangladesh Post also donated an amount equal to their one day expenditure to feed these people.
Now Tanbir is feeding 500 people at lunch and 500 people at night with cooked meals by maintaining all precautions and social distancing.
Tanbir Hasan said to Bangladesh post that “ It’s my ethical duty to stand beside these marginalized people in this crisis, and there are so many people who are starving which I can not bear to watch with silence. And as a DU student and DUCSU leader its my duty to work for the people. I request everyone to help each other in this epidemic crisis.”
