Starting next year, Dhaka University students will need to use a card punch system to enter the university halls, announced Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal.
He made this statement during a programme titled 'Recruitment and Promotion' at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism's auditorium in the Student-Teacher Centre (TSC) on Friday morning.
VC Prof Kamal highlighted the university's efforts to bring about changes, emphasising the need for students to punch their cards to access the halls. This measure aims to prevent unauthorised entry and ensure a secure environment.
He also mentioned implementing a similar system in the library to discourage non-academic visitors, especially those preparing for the BCS exam, allowing students to focus more on their studies.
Additionally, Prof Kamal discussed plans for separate admission tests for master's programmes, emphasising the importance of quality over quantity in student admissions. He emphasised the need for research-oriented studies and career-building opportunities at the master's level.
Attendees at the event included faculty members, the acting Dean of the faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Rasheda Irshad Nasir, and the chairman of the department, Prof. Dr. Abul Mansur Ahmed and Parliament Member Ferdous Ahmed. The discussion also covered how the pandemic has affected hiring and advancement procedures.
MP Ferdous Ahmed encouraged students to pursue journalism as a profession and stressed the need for quality journalism in the digital age. Prof. Abul Mansoor Ahmed emphasised the importance of providing opportunities for recruitment and promotion, acknowledging the challenges posed by the pandemic.
