The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have decided to conduct their admission tests for the 2020-21 academic year at all the divisional cities across the country.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the DU Admission Committee held at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Monday. The entry tests used to take place in Dhaka only.
The meeting also decided to change the distribution of marks of the admission tests. Admission tests will be held for 100 marks for ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ units.
The marks include 40 for multiple choice questions and 40 for writing while 20 will be given based on the results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC). Deans of the faculties concerned will fix the duration and subject-wise questionnaires for the tests.
Earlier, a discussion was held on a proposal to abolish the ‘D’ and ‘F’ units from the next academic year.
In this regard, Pro-vice chancellor of the University Professor ASM Maksud Kamal (Education) said, “The admission test on F-unit will be conducted as before. And there is still room for a detailed discussion about the D-unit.”
Earlier, on October 20, Dean's Committee of the university recommended that the admission test would be taken on 200 marks.
At that time, the committee kept 80 marks based on SSC and HSC. Now, it has been reduced to 20 marks.
The HSC and equivalent examinations will not be held this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The results of these tests will be published in December on the basis of the results of the Secondary School Certificate and equivalent, and Junior School Certificate and Junior Dakhil Certificate examinations.
