Dr. Mohabbot Ali, former teacher of Accounting Department of Dhaka University, alleged that he was forced to go on retirement by former Dean of Faculty of Business Studies Dr. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam.
According to his documents, Dr. Mohabbot Ali applied for one-year extraordinary leave from Dhaka University after getting chance as a lecturer at Melbourne Institute of Technology (MIT). That is why he sent an application to the registrar to let him go aboard for one year.
After that former chairman Riazur Rahman Chowdhury called a meeting to grant his leave though the coordination and development committee on December 22. But due to making it past, he went to Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam who was the dean of FBS at that time.
However, Mohabbot Ali alleged that Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam pressured him to go on retirement due to political difference.
He said, “When I went to Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, he told me to stop here. Because my file will not move on. You can try your best but will not happen anything rather you can go on retirement. I will help you. As a result, I went on retirement prematurely.”
He further said, “I took part in the deans election in 2019 from Dhaka University white panel (BNP-backed teachers’ panel). As a result, Shibli Sir didn’t take it positively. That's why, he forced me to go on retirement. Besides, I didn't have much time to go to Australia. That's why if I miss it for one time, I will miss it forever. So, I went on retirement.”
He claimed that he had one year of extraordinary leave. Because, a teacher gets five years of extraordinary leave from University. But he took four years. So, he just tried to take it but failed.
The laws state that each teacher is entitled to take five years of leave. So, the teachers have to appeal by the chairman to the registrar. Then it will be placed at a syndicate meeting. Then, the syndicate takes the decision whether he will be able to get it or not.
Despite frequent efforts over phone, Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam could not be reached for his comments in this regard.
Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor of DU said, “We have got several allegations like this. So, we are discussing the matters with the law adviser. If we get any legal stand, we will take action.”
