The Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Tuesday suspended 69 students for taking unfair means in the university admission tests.
They were admitted to the university in the academic sessions from 2012-13 to 2017-18. The decision was taken at the University’s disciplinary council meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Md. Akhtaruzzaman, a statement issued by the university said.
"The decision of suspension was taken as allegations against them were found true. They all are also listed criminals of CID charges," said Proctor of the university Professor AKM Golam Rabbani.
According the statement, the University authority will issue show cause notices to those students, which they will have to respond to within seven days. After that the fate of the accused students would be finalized in the university syndicate meeting.
Earlier on January 31, 2018, the authorities of Dhaka University expelled 15 students from the institution for their alleged involvement in admission test fraud.
On January 4, a disciplinary committee of the university, recommended for expelling these students as they adopted unfair means in the admission test and were involvement in admission test fraud.
On June 23 this year, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police pressed charges against 125 people, including 87 students of Dhaka University, in a case filed over their alleged involvement in question paper leaks and cheating their way into the university.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police of CID Sumon Kumar Das, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet before a Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
Police submitted the charge sheet following a year and a half long investigation in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station under the Public Examinations Law and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act on October 20, 2017.
