DU students return to classes

The Dhaka University campus has returned to its vibrant days after reopening its in-person classes after 19 months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The university resumed in-person classes on Sunday after maintaining proper health guidelines. 

After visiting the Arts Building, FBS and Social Science Babhan, students were seen rushing to classes wearing masks. 

The students were allowed in after the authorities tested the temperature at the main gate of the faculties.

Banners containing the rules were seen hung in front of the faculties and especially in classrooms. Sinks were also installed with soaps for students to wash hands before entering.

Bothtola, Mall Catthar, Carzon, Central Field, and VC Catthar, as well as TSC's 

Premises and cafeteria, were packed with students. Some were observed 

performing group study, while others were out with their buddies.

Tanjum Tushi, a final-year student of Sociology Department, when contacted, said that after almost two years, she and other classmates of her department got the chance to attend contacted, said that after almost two years, she and other classmates of her department got the chance to attend class physically like before the pandemic occurred. The joy among the students to be on their campus again was overwhelming. Busses for student transportation were also cleaned thoroughly and almost all were seen with masks, she added.

Nahid Hasan, a first-year student of Philosophy department, told Bangladesh Post that they had to leave campus after a few months of admission. It was so hard to stay home for two years. He could not stay connected well with online classes because of the poor network connection in the village. After coming back to the in-person class, he felt a pleasure. He hope they will recover soon what we lost during the pandemic.

Liakhat Farok, a third-year student of Parsi Language and Culture, thanked the university authorities for bringing them to in-person classes, saying that there was a big difference between in-person classes and online classes and urged to take remaining exams soon.

Dhaka University's Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman visited Arts Faculty's classrooms at 11.00am. After visiting the classes, he said, "the procedures for reopening the university were completed today through bringing the students to the classrooms."

"It feels like a pleasure to see 100% attendance in classes with fully vaccinated students."

"We are working under the "Loss Recovery Plan" to recover the time already wasted. Working harder in less time, conducting class activities, taking exams and time-saving steps are part of our Loss Recovery Plan. Hopefully, we can get back to our normal education activities by following the SOP along with the Los Recovery Plan, added the Vice-chancellor.
