DU starts Bangabandhu lyrics competition

Dhaka University Band Society (DUBS) organized a lyrics competition titled ‘Pitar Jonno Gaan’ in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Saturday. DU VC Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the competition as chief guest at the university’s Professor Habibullah conference hall. 

DUBS president Tanvir Alam Farabi presided over the event with Business Studies department dean Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam as special guest. DUBS moderator assistant Prof Mohammad Ainul Islam, Shironamhin founder Ziaur Rahman and musician Shafiq Tuhin presented speeches at the programme. 

In the opening speech, DU VC Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman paid his respects to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and the other martyrs of 15th August, 1975. He congratulated DUBS for their unique initiative to honour Bangabandhu. Bangabandhu dedicated his life to serve the country and its people, he said.

He lauded the initiative to pay tribute to Bangabandhu’s ideals through the use of music. He further stated that he is hopeful the initiative will inspire the next generation to follow in Bangabandhu’s footsteps. 

The lyrics competition will end on 15th November, 2019. The winner of the competition will be awarded and a song will be composed based on their lyrics.

Shironamhin band founder and bass guitarist Ziaur Rahman and singer Shafiq Tuhin are the judges for the competition.
