Five Bangladeshi universities have been ranked among the world's best universities for 2024-25 by US News and World Report, a US-based media organization.
Dhaka University (DU) leads the pack, ranking among the top 600 globally and first among Bangladeshi universities. The other four universities rank beyond 1,000.
The rankings were published on the US News website on June 25. This year, 2,250 universities from more than 100 countries were evaluated. Since 2014, US News has been publishing the global rankings of universities.
In the 2024-25 rankings, Dhaka University is placed 560th globally and 146th in Asia with a score of 52.30 out of 100. Rajshahi University ranks 1,176th globally and 342nd in Asia with a score of 41.30. Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) ranks 1,396th globally and 488th in Asia with a score of 35.70. Jahangirnagar University is 1,414th globally and 500th in Asia with a score of 35.50. Bangladesh Agricultural University ranks 1,775th globally and 689th in Asia with a score of 29.

US News rankings differ slightly from those published by other organizations, such as QS and Times Higher Education. While other rankings consider factors like teacher-student ratio, international teacher-student ratio, knowledge exchange with industry, reputation in the job market, and employment, the US News rankings focus primarily on research and publications.
In the US News rankings, Harvard University holds the first position with a perfect score of 100 out of 100. Seven of the top 10 universities are in the US, while three are in the UK.China has 422 universities included in the rankings, with 37 in the top 300. From neighbouring India, 140 universities made the list, all ranking beyond 600. Pakistan has 32 universities in the rankings, with four in the top 600.
