Allegations have been raised against Dhaka University proctor Golam Rabbani that he is not student-friendly and does not treat students ‘properly’. Members of Dhaka University Central Student Union (Ducsu) on Saturday raised the allegation to DU vice-chancellor professor Akhtaruzzaman at an executive meeting of Ducsu.

Confirming the matter, Ducsu General Secretary Golam Rabbani told Bangladesh Post that most of the DUCSU members supported the allegation. “Hearing the allegation, VC said that he would request the proctor to become more student-friendly,” said the DUCSU GS quoting VC.

At the meeting, the student union also opposed combined admission at the university level arguing that it would hamper ‘distinctiveness and tradition’ of the university’s intake test, said Rabbani. In this regard, Ducsu Assistant General Secretary Md Saddam Hussain placed a proposal at the meeting which was passed unanimously, he added.

This was the fourth executive meeting of Ducsu after the election held on March 11, 2018. Results of the election was rejected by most of the panels.

Besides, several other proposals were also placed in the meeting. The proposals include launching new buses at university to Cumilla route, banning plastics on campus, allotting seats from first year, establishing bunk seats at dormitories, fixing development fees policy, holding central fresher’s reception, making complete lists of differently able students, establishing footnotes at the base of sculptures of the university, and providing identity cards to makeshift shops.
