DU organises Int’l conference on Business and Economics

Dhaka University (DU) organised a two-day long International Conference on “Business and Economics”. The programme was inagurated on Tuesday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of the university.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of DU Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The Faculty of Business Studies of DU has organised this conference with a theme of “Spectrum of Opportunities through Innovation and Technology”.

Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies of DU Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam presided over the inaugural function while Rector of Cyprus Social Sciences University Professor Dr Mustafa Tumer and Professor Dr Partha S Ghosh of Tufts University, USA addressed it as the special guests. Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank Professor Dr Atiur Rahman delivered key-note speech while Co-Chair of Conference Organizing Committee Professor Dr M Sadiqul Islam gave vote of thanks.

Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for proper utilization of human resources to make Bangladesh a developed country. Terming the business, innovation and technology as an integral part of development the VC said, we have to make our population more dynamic and skilled with technology and innovation. Bangladesh has made tremendous progress in various sectors including business, economy, health, education, poverty reduction as well as women empowerment, he mentioned. Bangladesh has already fulfilled all the criteria to become a developed country, he pointed out. He emphasized on undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes on business and economy among the University of Dhaka and other renowned universities in the world to make general people free from poverty. He hoped that this conference would create a common platform in this regard.

It may be mentioned that academicians and researchers from 14 countries including Bangladesh, USA, UK, Australia, Japan, Turkey, Cyprus, Sweden, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nigeria and UAE participated in the conference. A total of fifteen parallel sessions took place in two-day international conference while more than fifty research papers were presented.
