Institute of Education and Research (IER), Dhaka University is celebrating International Literacy Day today through various events. The theme of International Literacy Day for this year is 'Literacy in many languages, guaranteeing a better life'.
The university authority have organized an elaborate programme marking the day which includes rally and discussion meeting with participation of students, teachers and employees of IER.
The programme will be held at the Sadat Ali conference room of IER. Director General of the Bureau of Non-formal Education and the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Tapan Kumar Ghosh will be present as the chief guest and Professor Syeda Tahmina Akhter, Director, IER will be present as special guest.
Professor Dr Abdul Malek of IER will present a speech on the theme of this year’s Literacy Day. Later on, former Director of IER, Founding Professor of Non-formal and Continuing Education Department, Professor Dr Abu Hamid Latif will be honored for making outstanding contribution at national and international level in informal and continuing education.
