Department of Pharmacy of Dhaka University and Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia celebrated the international Pharmacist Day 2023 in a befitting manner with much enthusiasm and festivity.
To mark the day, a discussion and colourful rally was organised with the theme of "Pharmacy Strengthening Health Systems" at the Dhaka University campus, said a press release.
The Bangladesh Pharmacy Students’ Association (BPSA) of IU organized a colorful procession along with a short discussion at the IU campus.
DU Vice Chancellor Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman as the chief guest inaugurated the day-long program in the Pharmacy Lecture Theatre Square.
After the inauguration ceremony a discussion was held at the Lecture Theatre. The chairman of the Pharmacy department Professor Dr. Firoj Ahmed presided the discussion while the pro-VC (Education) Professor Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal addressed as chief guest and pharmacy faculty dean Professor Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar, chairman of Pharmaceutical Chemistry department Professor Dr. Md. Shah Amran, chairman of clinical pharmacy and pharmacology department Professor Dr. Sheikh Jahir Rayhan and chairman of Medicine Technology department Professor Dr. Mohammad Rashedul Islam presented as special guest.
In the inauguration ceremony, DU VC Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman called the pharmacists to play an effective role in the development of the country’s health sector. He said, “The students of the Pharmacy Faculty of Dhaka University have to emerge as skilled pharmacists and have to work for achieving the target of developing the quality of the heath sector, ensuring universal health service and developing durability.”
Pro-VC (Education) Professor Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal gave importance on strengthening industry-academy relationship to invent new patterns of medicines. He said, “Students have to concentrate on research and give effort to deliver something new to the nation.”
Pharmacy department Chairperson of IU Arghya Prosun Sarkar said ‘Earlier it was believed that pharmacists only make the medicine, but now it is proved that pharmacists are the vanguard of the health system. Pharmacists are directly connected to the patient at present and contribute to medicine storage methods and counseling of patients.
