Dhaka University (DU) has released new guidelines for students returning to its residential halls and hostels. As the university prepares to reopen, students will be allowed to move back into the halls in phases. These new instructions were published on the university’s website on Tuesday.
The updated rules specify that only current students will be eligible for hall residency. This means that students who have completed their Master's or graduation, but have not enrolled in any new courses, will not be allowed to stay in the halls. If these students still have belongings in the halls, they are required to clear all outstanding dues and remove their belongings by a deadline set by the university.
Failure to do so will result in the removal of their items by hall authorities, who will not be held responsible for them. All students who are eligible to stay in the halls must complete a prescribed form available on their respective dashboard on the DU website. On the day of check-in, students need to submit a copy of the filled form, an up-to-date ID card, and a pay slip showing that they have paid the necessary hall fees. The guidelines also clarify that students who live in areas where DU provides regular transportation, including within Dhaka city, are not eligible to apply for hall residency. Additionally, seats in the halls will not be allotted to students pursuing MPhil, PhD, or equivalent degrees, as well as those enrolled in Professional Masters, Evening Masters, Diploma, and Certificate courses.
DU has also provided detailed instructions on how seats will be allotted in the halls for eligible students.
