The Ministry of Education has appointed Dr. Mamun Ahmed, a professor from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as the new Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University (DU). The announcement was made in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Md Shahinur Islam on Thursday.
According to the notification, Dr. Mamun Ahmed’s appointment comes under Article 13(1) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973, and has been approved by the President and Chancellor. His term will be for four years from the date of his joining.
Dr. Mamun will receive payments equal to his current position and enjoy all other benefits according to university rules. He will also reside on the university campus. As Pro-VC, he will perform duties and exercise powers as outlined by the university’s statutes and laws, and as delegated by the vice-chancellor.
The notification also mentioned that the President and Chancellor hold the authority to revoke the appointment at any time if necessary.
Dr. Mamun Ahmed is well-known in the academic field, particularly for his work in biochemistry and molecular biology. His appointment is seen as a step toward strengthening DU’s academic leadership.
