Dhaka University authorities have decided not to hold online admission test. They have also decided to curtail entry test marks and hold division-wise tests for the 2020-21 academic session at the undergraduate level.
The decisions were made during a meeting of the Deans' committee presided over by DU Vice-chancellor, Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman on Tuesday. The university Pro-VC (Education) Prof. A S M Maqsood Kamal confirmed the information to Bangladesh Post. Now the decisions of the Deans’ Committee will go to the Academic Council.
According to the source, the university authorities rejected online admission tests and decided to take admission tests for the first year at the undergraduate level through examinations in person.
In order to prevent the sufferings of the examinees-guardians and to maintain the social distance for corona pandemic, the university administration is thinking of conducting examinations in the divisions. As a result, the candidates will no longer have to come to Dhaka and everyone will be able to take part in the examination in their own divisions.
Furthermore, the distribution of admission test marks is going to be changed. The total marks distribution has been reduced to 100, while it had been 200 in the previous academic sessions since long. Of the 100 total marks, 20 marks will be reserved to count each aspirants’ score on the basis of results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and admission tests will be held on the rest 80 marks. Out of 80 marks 50 would be kept for the written test and 30 for Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) while these were 45 and 75 in the last academic session respectively out of 120. Previously SSC and HSC results were evaluated out of 80, whereas, this time those will be evaluated within 20.
A S M Maqsood Kamal said, we have decided on division-wise exams to prevent the sufferings of the examinees-guardians and to maintain the social distance amid the corona pandemic. We have decided to take the admission tests in person and the test will have 100 marks in total.
The Vice-chancellor said, the deans’ committee of the university has made some recommendations. Now these will go to the General Examination Committee. On judging and analyzing, the academic council of the university will make the ultimate decision.
