Dhaka University central library has opened its door to the students after 18 whole months. Students of DU will have to show certificate of receiving at least one dose of vaccination to enter the library.
The library opened on Sunday from 10 am. The university's central library, science library and departmental or institute seminar libraries have all opened as part of the return of students to the campus.
It was decided at the Dhaka University Syndicate meeting on September 18 that the university libraries and seminar libraries would be open from 10 am to 5 pm for students in the fourth year of graduation and post-graduation. However, it was under the condition that the students must show certificate of receiving at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccination.
Students will be able to use the libraries five days a week starting from Sunday to Thursday. The library will gradually open for students of years other than fourth year or post-grad.
Professor Md. Nasir Uddin Munshi, the librarian in charge of the library, confirmed to Bangladesh Post that the library is now open for fourth year undergraduate and postgraduate students, and they will be able to study there now.
“It was good to see that the students have carried proof of their vaccine doses. They were gifted with masks at the entrance. However, books or food from outside are prohibited in the library,” he said.
The professor further said the university authorities have been given instructions for the use of the library. The protocols include wearing masks all the time and maintaining a physical distance of at least three feet.
The hygiene rules also suggest that, users will not be allowed to go near book shelves. The library staff will assist them in their necessary research.
According to the concerned, group discussions in the library are strictly prohibited, photocopy or printer machines in the library are not allowed to be used for the time being, physical distance inside and outside the library must be complied with and separate entry and exit doors must be used.
