Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Monday celebrated the 49th victory Day amid much festivity and paying tributes to the war heroes.
The day’s programmes included hoisting of the national flag, placing wreaths at the national memorial at Savar, film and documentary exhibition and cultural programmes.
The celebration started with setting off firecrackers at the base of Raju memorial sculpture at the Teacher-Student center (TSC) intersection around 12.05am, organised by a TSC-based students’ organisation ‘Slogan 71′.
In the morning, university teachers, students, officers and employees led by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Akhtaruzzaman paid rich tributes to the Liberation War martyrs at the Savar National Memorial.
To mark the day, Prof Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated a photo exhibition titled “Sahoser Joy” (Victory of bravery), organised by Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA), at the TSC. Besides, a musical programme organised by the university authority and Chhayanaut Cultural Center, was held at the central playground.
Various infrastructures including TSC, Arts building, Karzon hall were illuminated on the occasion. Special prayers were offered at the Central Mosque of the university along with other mosques and places of worship, seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for achieving the independence.
